THERE is to be no 2022 World Cup for Cherries star Ryan Christie after Scotland’s 3-1 defeat to Ukraine at Hampden Park.
Midfielder Christie started the play-off semi-final on the bench, coming on at half-time to replace QPR striker Lyndon Dykes.
Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk put Ukraine two goals ahead either side of half-time before Callum McGregor gave the home team a chance with 10 minutes remaining.
But Artem Dovbyk netted with the final touch of the match, well beyond the allotted four minutes of added time, to seal an emotional win for the visitors.
They will now travel to Cardiff to face Wales for a place in the Qatar tournament later this year, on Sunday, June 5.
Scotland still have three fixtures to play during this international break, with Nations League home and away matches versus Armenia, sandwiching a home clash with Republic of Ireland.
