WESSEX Premier League outfit AFC Portchester have made an ambitious attempt to land former Cherries star Brett Pitman.

That’s according to the Portsmouth News, who believe that Portchester boss Dave Carter has held discussions with the former Bristol City and Ipswich frontman.

After his spells with Cherries, Pitman spent three years at Portchester’s EFL neighbours, Portsmouth.

Whilst at Fratton Park, Pitman scored 41 goals in 99 league appearances, helping Pompey to an EFL Trophy win at Wembley.

Pitman, who started his career with Cherries prior to a second spell him help the club to the Premier League, finished last campaign on loan with fifth tier Eastleigh.

After a prolific career in the Football League, Pitman recently revealed how he his spell with the Spitfires was an “eye-opener” to the non-league world.

Jersey-born Pitman was released by Bristol Rovers after his contract with the newly-minted League One club expired, meaning clubs are free to discuss terms with the striker.

Bizarrely, another former Cherries and Pompey striker, Matt Tubbs, also took on a player-coach role in the Wessex League.

Pitman’s most recent game in fact came at Portchester’s OnSite Group stadium, representing Portsmouth in a charity match against an ex-Rangers side in the memory of Lee Rigby.
