FORMER Cherries striker Josh King looks set to join Turkish giants Fenerbahce ahead of the new season – meaning the Norweigian international could be lining up in the Champions League.

30-year-old King, who scored 55 goals in 185 Cherries appearances, is a currently a free agent after his contract was mutually terminated with Watford, despite having a year remaining on his deal.

King had mustered five goals in 31 Premier League games last season, as the Hornets were relegated after one season back in the top-flight.

Fenerbahce announced today on social media that they had come to an agreement with King, stating: “Our club has reached an agreement in principle with Norwegian Footballer Joshua King. “The player will be in Istanbul this evening to pass the health checks and for further transfer negotiations.”

King has previously played five minutes of Champions League action, coincidentally in Turkey.

He came off the bench during Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Fenerbahce’s fierce Istanbul rivals Galatasaray in November, 2012.

To date, that remains his only taste of European football, although he does boast 62 senior caps with Norway.

Fenerbahce, who finished second in the Super Lig last year, will have to advance through three rounds of qualifying in order to reach the group stage proper of the Champions League.
