NEW WIMBORNE goalkeeper Tom Parker-Trott revealed he looks up to former Cherries teammate Aaron Ramsdale, with the shot-stopper stating that working with the England international “was a great experience.”
Parker-Trott, who was on the books at Cherries between the ages of 13 and 18, arrives at New Cuthbury following a three-year stint with Wessex Premier League outfit AFC Stoneham.
Now 21, the custodian was a part of the same goalkeeping stable as now Arsenal star Ramsdale, with the Stoke-born gloves-man three years Parker-Trott’s senior.
Speaking after joining James Stokoe’s Wimborne side, Parker-Trott told Wimborne’s website: “When I was at Bournemouth, Aaron Ramsdale was at the club. Watching him train a few times, and being on the bench to him when he played a few games, it was a great experience to watch him.
“Seeing where he is now, it makes you think how good he is. He is definitely someone I look up to.
“I spent five years at AFC Bournemouth, left there and joined AFC Stoneham for three seasons. Now, I find myself joining Wimborne Town!
“Wessex Prem for three seasons – with COVID, it was bit of a nightmare, but we got through a full season eventually, in the end we finished fifth.
“We played Portsmouth in the Hampshire Senior Cup last season, which was a big event for the club. Quite a few people came along, so it is probably the biggest game I’ve ever played.”
After departing Cherries at the end of his scholarship in 2019, Parker-Trott spent three seasons in the Wessex League with AFC Stoneham.
Reflecting on the decision to step up to the Southern League, the 21-year-old mentioned: “As I said, I spent three seasons with Stoneham in the Wessex Prem, and I thought it was time to start pushing on and test myself a bit.
“When the gaffer (Wimborne boss James Stokoe) gave me a call, I knew it was a no-brainer to come to the club.
“It’s a great set up and I’m really looking forward to it.”
