SHEFFIELD Wednesday defender Liam Palmer described Cherries as "strong" opposition as the two sides prepare to face off in Portugal tomorrow.

Both clubs are currently spending time away on training camps, ahead of the start of their respective league seasons.

Darren Moore's Owls begin their League One campaign against Portsmouth on July 30, while Cherries host Aston Villa in the Premier League on August 6.

For Scott Parker's side, this will be their first friendly of pre-season, in what has been described as a "behind-closed-doors training exercise".

Looking ahead to the clash with Cherries, which kicks off at 5pm, Scotland international Palmer told the Owls' website: "The fitness side is going really well and it will be good to play a game to get back towards the match sharpness.

“The quality of opposition is strong, Bournemouth were promoted to the Premier League, they have really good players so this will be another good test.

“It will be good to put some of the tactical work into practice, particularly when they have the ball.

“The manager has been so thorough with all the preparation, we’ve had game times of 30s, 45s and 60s so we’re getting towards the 90s with that first game of the season against Portsmouth in mind.”

Sheffield Wednesday's pre-season has so far consisted of a 0-0 draw at Alfreton Town and 2-0 win at Harrogate Town.
