SCOTT Parker revealed how “sharp” Dominic Solanke netted three times in a training game last week – before getting on the scoresheet against Sheffield Wednesday.

Solanke, who played the second 45 minutes in the Dorset club’s 2-1 victory over the Owls, netted what proved to be the winner against the League One side after Lewis Cook’s opener.

And Parker said Solanke, who struck 29 times in the Championship last season, had already been among the goals before the club’s first publicised training fixture.

He told afcb.co.uk: “I'm really pleased for the goalscorers. Lewis was in the right area and Dom's was a lovely finish in and round the box.

"Dom got three in the training game last week too. I'm really pleased and I thought Dom was really sharp."

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru pulled a goal back for Wednesday 11 minutes from time after dispossessing Jefferson Lerma.

Assessing the performance as a whole, Parker said: “I think it was a good workout for the boys after a tough few days here in Portugal.

"We've been working the players hard, so we probably saw a few tired legs in the game which is to be expected.

"Overall, I think some of the things we've been working on came out in the game and I was pleased. We won the game, so that's a good habit to get into. I was happy with that.

"I think the most important thing at the moment is to get minutes in the legs and now nearly every player has had 45 minutes.

"That's now two 45 minutes with another training game last week. Then we have another game coming up on Tuesday where we'll increase those minutes for certain players and step on into the middle of pre-season."

Cherries face Braga in their next training contest on Tuesday.
