POOLE-born cricketer Brad Currie took a six wicket haul on his debut at Lord's, stating afterwards "it meant a lot to me" as Sussex drew with Middlesex in the LV= Insurance County Championship.

Currie, on trial with Sussex, was included in the squad for the trip to Middlesex after impressing with Sussex's 2nd XI.

He continued to standout, taking four wickets in his first hour, before returning later on in the day to take two further wickets.

Starting off with an in-swinger that beat Mark Stoneman’s inside edge to trap him lbw, the 23-year-old followed up by taking out Steve Eskinazi with an outside edge, sending the ball to Oli Carter who took two attempts to catch.

Ex-Poole Grammar School student Currie then took two wickets in the space of four balls.

Former England opener Sam Robson had his off-stump pegged back by one which beat the outside edge, before Max Holden was castled too via the inside of the bat.

After an initial four for 16, the seamer ended with a final showing of six for 93, returning to take out Toby Roland-Jones and Umesh Yadav.

Middlesex were eventually bowled out for 485 in the first-innings, giving Sussex a lead of 38 heading into the final day.

Both Captains agreed on a draw with Sussex on 181 for nine in their second innings on day four.

Speaking after his debut, Currie was quoted by the Argus as saying: “You could see from my celebrations it meant a lot to me, even to get one.

“I was saying to Ari (Karvelas, fellow trialist) as well, I just want the first one to be a good wicket. I didn’t want it to be caught at deep square leg or something.

“Just to be playing for Sussex, playing in the County Championship, you’ve just got to let the emotions out sometimes.

“Negative ones you have to try and control and put on a brave face, but when those wickets were falling it was just pure elation.”
