WIMBORNE continued their fine pre-season form with a comfortable win over Cherries’ under-18s, cruising to an eventual 4-0 win reports Graham Dunn.
Braces from Harry Morgan and former Cherry Aaron Roberts gave the Magpies their seventh successive win of the summer, maintaining Wimborne’s 100 per cent record in pre-season.
Despite the eventual scoreline, it was the young Cherries who started brightest.
Early on Cherries hit the woodwork twice, with midfielder Kian Tydeman saw his central free-kick cannon back off Tom Parker-Trott's bar, before Michael DaCosta Gonzalez's strike came back off the keeper's far post.
Although Cherries had come close to the opener, it would be the hosts who would take an early lead.
11 minutes in, the visitors' central defenders and keeper dithered as to who would deal with Parker-Trott's long clearance, allowing the opportunistic Morgan to stick a long leg into the mix and directed the ball into the unguarded net.
On the half-hour mark, Oakley Hanger's free-kick was headed back to Ben Satterley whose instant drive crashed against the cross-bar.
And two minutes later, the home side doubled their lead.
A slick passing move on the left resulted in Morgan slipping Roberts through for the youngster to score against his previous team.
Shortly before the break, a Wimborne free-kick from the right was only partially cleared by Cherries.
After some ping-pong in the box, Morgan rose highest to gently head the ball just inside the post for goal number three.
There was time just before the half-time whistle for Morgan to potentially claim a hat-trick.
Stand-in skipper Morgan’s mazy run finished with a one-two and a shot over the bar.
With a comfortable 3-0 lead at the break, the second half was against controlled by the Magpies.
On the hour mark they brought an end to the scoring, with Morgan involved once more.
The former Bashley man played Roberts through the inside-right channel, and the youngster scored with aplomb, marking Wimborne’s 36th goal of pre-season.
Magpies are in action one last time prior to the curtain-raiser against Cinderford on Saturday, August 13.
They host Basingstoke Town at the New Cuthbury this Saturday, with kick-off at 1:30pm.
