EVERTON are "rivalling" Nottingham Forest to try and sign Cherries star Jaidon Anthony, according to a report by the Evening Standard.

Anthony enjoyed a brilliant breakthrough season under Scott Parker last term, playing in 45 of the club's 46 Championship matches, scoring eight goals and providing six assists to help clinch promotion.

Having been an unused substitute for the opening two games of this season, Anthony made his Premier League debut against Arsenal last weekend, before playing the full 90 minutes as Cherries knocked Norwich City out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old's long-term future remains uncertain, with his current contract set to expire in the summer of 2023, but talks are ongoing to try and tie him down to a longer term deal.

The Standard says Everton are eyeing up Anthony as a possible replacement, should their winger Anthony Gordon complete a big-money move to Chelsea before next week's transfer deadline.

The report also claims newly-promoted Nottingham Forest have had a bid turned down by Cherries for Anthony this summer, but the Daily Echo understands that to not be the case, with no official bid submitted.

Discussing his contract situation earlier this month, Anthony told the Daily Echo: "We're just concentrating on football. Hopefully there will be a resolution soon."

Also speaking to the Echo, boss Parker was asked if he was hopeful of a positive outcome regarding contract talks with Anthony and fellow academy graduate Jordan Zemura.

He said: "Yeah, I hope so. I hope that will be the case.

"I hope there's a resolution to both of them.

"I don't know at this present moment in time exactly where that is sitting.

"But like all the players, Dom (Solanke), (Mark) Travers, we're a football club that want to try and tie down these players, these young players that are going to be the future of the club and hopefully that will be the case with those two as well."
