CHRISTCHURCH chief Graham Kemp has expressed the drawback of his club staging all the prestigious Bournemouth Football Association cup finals.

Priory's mouthwatering Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division clash against leaders Totton was called off because of an unfit pitch on Saturday.

The decision was made at about noon after heavy morning rain had left the Hurn Bridge pitch, one of the best in the league, waterlogged.

Kemp said: "We have the prestige of holding all the BFA Cup finals and that can have an unfortunate side effect on us.

"Last week we staged a reserve game on Wednesday and then a Bournemouth FA cup final on Thursday and sometimes it wrecks the pitch.

"At lunchtime on Saturday the referee decided it was badly damaged. It was the right decision with more rain due to come in after noon.

"When we would have got to kick-off time it would have been a quagmire.

"It was the unfortunate side effect of two games in two nights and at this time of year there is nothing we can really do about it with the cup finals being held here as well."

Christchurch, fighting for a top 10 place, host high-riding Brockenhurst in the league tonight (7.45pm) with the same squad who would have done duty against Totton.

Kemp said: "We lost 3-2 to Brock at the start of the season when we conceded two goals in the last three minutes.

"John Pyeat wants to make an assault on the title next season and has already brought in players like Dave Wakefield and Danny Gibbons.

"He is trying to put together a team to have a go at it so we will have to be at our best to get a good result."
