HAMWORTHY UNITED 0 AFC TOTTON 2 HAMWORTHY United pushed Totton all the way before the visitors clinched victory with a stoppage time second goal.

The Hammers hit the post through Carl Mutch and saw a Ryan Dovell effort cleared off the line when the score was still goalless.

But Sydenhams Premier leaders Totton went ahead with 20 minutes to go through Gareth Byers and then doubled their lead at the death with a Mark Osman strike.

Victory was enough to propel Totton four points clear of second-placed Wimborne at the top, although Magpies have two matches in hand. Hammers manager Phil Simkin said: "We did tremendously well.

"I don't know what their people will say, but they know they were in a game tonight. We are desperately upset we didn't get anything out of it. Totton scored about 25 minutes into the second half from a goalmouth mix up when a loose ball fell straight to their guy.

"Their second came in the 92nd-93rd minute when we had pushed everyone up chasing an equaliser.

"We have given them a real run for their money. I'm proud of my lads. They gave it their all."

Simkin, handicapped when Matt Grimason pulled out late through injury, added: "Fair play to Totton, though.

"They had a man sent off in the first half for bringing Lee Thomas down just inside their half when he was through on goal.

"They have good players and plenty of experience, which we haven't got, and it showed."

Mutch went close to giving Hammers the lead when his shot hit a post and rebounded back into Totton's goalkeeper's hands.

Dovell saw his effort kicked off the line by a defender with Totton's keeper beaten.
