MIDFIELDER James Murray grabbed Verwood's late second goal to make this game safe and keep their promotion drive in top gear.
The left-sided player, who has just broken into the first team at Potterne Park, added to Paul Arnold's first-half strike for Town.
Verwood manager Adie Arnold said: "James has come up from our reserve team and has played for the seniors for the past two weeks.
"He has done well and scored in a breakaway in the last minute.
"It was a throw-in on our left side by Luke Homer and James got in behind the defence and took the goal very well.
"Paul had got our first from 20 yards in the first half after breaking from his own half.
"But a few harsh words were said at half time because I knew 1-0 wasn't going to be enough to win it.
"The boys responded well in the second half when they turned in a solid defensive and James got his goal.
"I was really pleased with the second half because it was a gritty performance.
"It basically killed Petersfield off and it should give us fourth place.
"I was pleased with the performance and the points."
Verwood add Martin Newbury and Pete King to their squad for Totton and Eling's league visit to Potterne Park tomorrow (3pm).
Verwood: Willis, Elysee, Lynch, Giles, Homer, Dyer, Arnold, Faulkner, Murray, Goodall, Matt Newbury. Unused subs: Beverley, Eyre, Reeves.
