KAROL Zabik has insisted Pirates will not take their foot off the gas at Swindon tonight - even though a five-point defeat or less would book them a place in the Craven Shield semis or final.
Zabik shook off a first heat duck and the after effects of a wrist injury to score seven points as Poole Castle Cover beat the Robins 54-39 at home last night.
Victory propelled the Dorset club to the top of the Southern Group.
They are tied on four points with Eastbourne but have a superior race points difference of plus 13 compared to plus seven.
Swindon and Pirates go head-to-head in the group's final fixture at Blunsdon tonight (7.30pm).
Zabik said: "If you think about the points too much you have lost before the meeting starts.
"Riders don't count up the points during a meeting.
"We are sportsmen, we have to concentrate on our job. Everyone is looking forward to trying to win."
Looking back on last night's triumph, Zabik added: "My wrist was hurting a little but I can handle the pain."
The Pole demonstrated he was almost back to full fitness following a nasty fall at Poole on Good Friday by winning his final two races.
But Leigh Adams pipped him to the line for second in heat five after a terrific battle between the maestro and apprentice.
Zabik said: "Seven points wasn't so bad, but in the race with Leigh I just made a mistake on the last corner.
"Leigh will always cut back and I forgot about that.
"I didn't have the right set-ups in my first two races because when I went out on the track I felt it would be quite wet and sticky.
"It wasn't and I was spinning up in my first two, but the last two were perfect after I made good starts.
"In the last race I went so wide I felt I could touch the fence. It was nice.
"I just wanted so much to go on the outside.
"The bike was very fast in the last race, and I'm satisfied.
"I'm looking forward to Swindon. It will be a good track for me.
"I have never ridden there before but it is like a Polish track with a little bit of banking on the corners.
"It's going to be easier for me to ride than Eastbourne or Lakeside."
