LEWIS Cook revealed his disappointment for Cherries’ forward players after their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur – sharing: “we kind of let them down”.
Kieffer Moore provided goals in either half to send Cherries seemingly on their way to a 2-0 win.
However, three goals in the last 30 minutes from Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Davies, and Rodrigo Bentancur swung the game – and the points – in Spurs’ favour.
Defeat spells a third consecutive loss for Cherries, who now sit 14th in the Premier League at the time of writing.
Reflecting on the match, Cook shared with the Daily Echo: “I think it was a fantastic first half.
“A real marker in the game the (first Spurs) goal – the thing is if you switch off for one moment in this league you get punished.
“It's an incredible league, and we all know that. We know we've got some bits to sharpen up on.
“It's a real tough one to take, to be honest. Felt like we worked hard enough to get the win. Against a top team, you get punished.”
Interim boss Gary O’Neil made two changes to the side that tasted defeat at West Ham on Monday, shuffling his deck to bring Kieffer Moore and Jordan Zemura into the team, marking a big tactical switch.
The game plan almost paid off, with Cherries on top for large periods of the opening 60 minutes, before Spurs took control of proceedings.
Cook continued: “I think we executed the game plan fantastic.
“We pushed up the pitch pressing, created our own chances, so on another day it could be a few more goals.
“But I think it was a tough one to take, especially for the forward players.
“I felt like in some sense we kind of let them down a little bit, with them scoring the goals and working incredibly hard.
“But we're a team and we stick together no matter what. We put this to bed and we focus on the next week.”
