HAMMERS boss Dan Cann is remaining upbeat after his side could only grab a point from a controlling performance over Paulton Rovers.

Initially appointed interim boss after Tim Sills’ departure in October, Cann has been installed at permanent boss as the County Ground after steering the side to impressive results.

They continued their strong start to life in the Southern League with a commanding performance over perennial play-off contenders Paulton Rovers.

Max Wilcock cancelled out Joseph Morgan’s opener in the 1-1 draw, with Hammers unable to convert their spells of constant pressure of the Paulton box into further goals.

Speaking after the game, Cann told the Daily Echo: “We had an abundance of chances in the first half. I think they probably had two chances the whole game, one of which Tommy (Scott, goalkeeper) kept us in the game in the second half, to be fair.

“But the first one was really frustrating, considering how dominant we were in the first half, to be honest.

“The second half was just a bit of a non-starter, I think for both sides.

“Neither of us could really get the ball down. I think we sort of lfell into their game plan a little bit, which was frustrating, but again, it's another point at home in the league.

“We keep our unbeaten record at home as well.

“You’ve got to take the positives from it. But, I think it’s frustrating overall based on the chances that we had.”

Hammers were in the ascendancy prior to Morgan’s 27th minute opener, but rather than crumble to the sucker punch, they quickly rallied to find an equaliser 15 minutes later.

“They're a great group and they react well to going behind.

“Before that we were creating plenty of chances as it was, so I think it was kind of coming.

“If I'm honest, I probably expected a bit more an onslaught in the second half, but again, we had some decent chances in the second half, to be fair, but it's just one of those days.”
