CHERRIES are left sweating on the severity of Lewis Cook’s latest knee injury.

Cook was withdrawn during the first half at Brentford on Saturday, as Cherries lost 2-0 to Thomas Frank’s Bees.

One-time England international Cook has twice suffered serious knee injuries during his time at Cherries, rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.

After crunching into a 50-50 challenge on the halfway line, Cook immediately signalled to the bench he felt a problem in his knee and appeared to signal he would have to withdraw.

Following treatment by physio Nick Court, Cook’s knee was taped up and he continued to play, briefly, before having to trudge off and be replaced by Ben Pearson.

The midfielder was spotted at full-time wearing a protective knee brace.

Asked how severe the injury suffered by Cook is, boss Gary O’Neil told the Daily Echo: “Not sure how bad it will be.

“He said he felt some pain in his knee, but wanted to give it a go. So he went back on to see if it was okay. He obviously struggled, so we had to take him off.

“It’s a tough situation at the moment – AFC Bournemouth, newly-promoted to be without Tav (Marcus Tavernier) as we have been, to be without Dom (Solanke) and now to lose Lewis Cook as well.

“Add to that Neto’s injury that was big, Lloydy (Lloyd Kelly) was obviously out for a long time.

“So we’ve suffered some bad fortune injury wise but the lads are still together, the lads are still pushing and we have another big game on Saturday.”
