RYAN Christie is bullish about his side turning around their torrid run of form – stating: “It will be nice when we turn this run around to prove a few people wrong.”
Cherries are currently on a streak of six straight losses following Saturday’s defeat to Brentford, Christie playing the full 90 minutes of the contest in London.
The run marks Cherries’ worst sequence of losses since August 2011, leaving Gary O’Neil’s side one point – and one place – above the relegation spots.
Asked if there was a psychological boost to currently occupying a safe spot, Christie told the Daily Echo: “No, to be honest.
“It's still very early in the season.
“Obviously we’ve been on the flipside of it last season, where you're sitting top or around top of the Championship and you start looking over your shoulder too early.
“To me, that adds an extra pressure that you don't really need.
“We've got belief in the squad that we can pick up results. We've showed it before, especially under this manager.
“Results have again been frustrating, but we know how quickly the whole dynamic can change, if we can win next weekend, go on a run of three and four games.
“Because the table is so tight, you can catapult yourself up there in the division.”
Cherries’ run of four points from their last 10 fixtures have seen fans and pundits alike start to doubt their chances of survival come May.
However, Christie pointed out that the general consensus of the media had always been against Cherries.
He restarted: “I think we've faced that since we came in the door preseason.
“The first media day I had in the middle of preseason, people were asking me about if we could stay up and stuff like that.
“We've come up to this division not just thinking that we're here for a good time, where we bounce back down again, we want to stay up. We've said that since the very start of the season.
“The new owners (have) come in and said that everybody in the club is pushing in that direction, that we want to become a solidified Premiership team. So we believe that we can do that again.
“The belief stays within the camp and it will be nice when we turn this run around to prove a few people wrong.
“There's plenty of time to go. We're certainly not worried, we're not really looking at other results.
“I'm certainly not. Definitely in our hands. Next weekend is a big game, but one we look forward to the challenge and obviously being back at home as well.”
