RICHARD Lawson insists the dominant victory over Oxford Cheetahs “doesn’t reflect how hard it was” for Poole Pirates.

Lawson top scored for the hosts, with paid 14 from five rides, ably supported by Ben Cook (11+2).

There were important contributions right through the team, with six of the seven riders picking up at least one race win as Pirates cruised to a 57-33 victory.

But it was Oxford number one Sam Masters who led the way overall, winning four races on his way to a 15-point haul.

Reflecting on the victory, which leaves Poole well-placed in their BSN Series group, Lawson said: “It’s a good start.

“It was a tough night. I know the scoreline probably doesn’t reflect how hard it was.

“They have a really powerful top three. We seem to have settled in well and it was great to see so many fans turn out to support.”

Pirates return to action on Tuesday, away at Plymouth Gladiators (7pm).
