WIMBORNE Town have made their first signing for the upcoming season, with left-back Sam Jackson joining from divisional rivals Bashley.

After coming through the ranks with Bash, Jackson enjoyed spells in the Southern League Premier South with Dorchester Town and Poole Town, before returning to the New Forest midway through the 2021/22 campaign.

He helped Bashley achieve promotion back to the Southern League after a six-year absence, before playing 36 times and scoring twice as Bashley recorded a seventh-place finish under former Cherries striker Matt Tubbs.

Wimborne boss Tim Sills shared: “I'm absolutely delighted to welcome Sam to our Wimborne Town family.

“Sam brings a wealth of experience, as well as huge quality, the perfect mentality and character for what we are building and also great versatility.

“He recognises the ambition, professionalism and potential of the club and I couldn’t be happier to have him as part of this for next season and beyond.”

The news follows confirmation that defensive duo Scott Arnold and Connor Cocklin have signed on for the 2023/24 campaign.

There had been somewhat of an exodus at New Cuthbury, with four Magpies joining Wessex Premier League outfit Shaftesbury.

Aaron Roberts, Ashley Wells, Connal Morrison, and Asa Phillips have all joined former Wimborne and Poole Town winger Luke Burbidge, who is now joint manager at Shaftesbury.
