CHERRIES are looking to negotiate a transfer for loanee Matias Vina from parent club AS Roma, the Daily Echo understands.
As part of the initial loan deal to bring the Uruguayan on loan to Dorset, Cherries agreed a clause with the Italian giants to make the transfer permanent.
Reports at the time of the deal claimed the clause was worth €15million, roughly equivalent to £12.9million at current exchange rates.
However, the Daily Echo understands Cherries are in talks with Roma in a bid to find a fee that represents better value for the club.
Vina's initially joined Cherries on a loan switch on deadline day in January.
Despite struggling with injury during the first weeks of his loan spell, the left-back made 12 Premier League appearances.
Although primarily a defender, the 25-year-old impressed with his attacking displays, scoring two goals and frequently posing a threat with his long-range efforts.
The defender’s current deal at the Stadio Olimpico expires in the summer of 2026. After spending the last six months on loan at Cherries, Vina is keen on making the move permanent.
A continental champion in both South America and Europe, Vina found himself on the fringes of Jose Mourinho’s squad last campaign, making just seven appearances.
In total, the wing-back made 44 appearances for Roma after joining from Brazilian outfit Palmeiras in 2021, where he lifted the Copa Libertadores twice.
Roma’s latest accounts, posted in January, revealed that the club had lost a record €219million during the 2021-22 campaign, with debts around the €271million mark.
Vina has been called up for Uruguay’s internationals in June, the first games of former Cherries managerial target Marcelo Bielsa’s reign.
The South American country will play friendlies against Nicaragua and Cuba, on Thursday June 15 and Wednesday June 21 respectively.
Capped 29 times by Uruguay, Vina made two appearances at the World Cup in 2022.
With Jordan Zemura set to move on a free transfer to Udinese when his Cherries contract expires this summer, left back is a position that will need strengthening.
Currently, Lloyd Kelly has been deployed as a more defensive-minded left-back, with the former captain arguably more adept at centre-half.
