CHERRIES have agreed personal terms with Matias Vina, with the club now locked in negotiations with Roma to seal a permanent move, the Daily Echo understands.
The Uruguayan defender joined Cherries on an initial loan back in January, shaking off an injury issue to make 12 Premier League appearances.
Although a defender by trade, Vina quickly won over fans with his attacking displays, scoring twice and showing intent to get forward whenever possible.
Whilst Cherries held an option to make the move permanent, they allowed the clause to expire in hope of agreeing a better deal, as first reported by the Daily Echo.
With Cherries also in talks with Roma for their winger, Justin Kluivert, there is hope that a cheaper fee than the reported £12.9million clause can be agreed, especially if both players make the move to Vitality Stadium.
Roma reportedly face pressure to offload players in order to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) requirements ahead of the new season, with manager Jose Mourinho happy to let Vina depart as he no longer features in his plans.
Currently away on international duty with Uruguay, the 25-year-old is keen on the move and has already agreed personal terms with Cherries.
The left-back captained his side as they defeated Nicaragua 4-1 in Marcelo Bielsa’s first match in charge of Uruguay, and will hope to add another cap to his total of 30 when they face Cuba next Wednesday in another friendly.
Vina is a continental champion in both Europe and his native South America, winning the Copa Libertadores with Palmeiras, before moving to Italy and lifting the Europa Conference League with Roma last term.
Starting his career with Club Nacional in his home country, Vina made a total of 44 appearances for Roma across a year-and-a-half in Italy.
His contract in the Italian capital runs out in the summer of 2026, having signed a five-year deal when he arrived at Roma from Palmeiras for €13 million in August 2021.
