CHERRIES legend Steve Fletcher has taken on a new role at the club.

The club’s record appearance holder, having featured more than 800 times across two spells as a player, has held various positions since hanging up his boots in 2013.

After a spell scouting, Fletcher, a club ambassador, also worked as assistant manager to Lee Bradbury before becoming a first team coach in 2014.

Fletcher stayed in that role for eight seasons, working under five managers in Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall, Jonathan Woodgate, Scott Parker and Gary O’Neil.

But the 50-year-old has now stepped away from his coaching position following the arrival of Andoni Iraola as boss.

Fletcher will instead now serve as player liaison officer, a role previously held by Jimmy Glass for eight years, before he left this summer to join Wimborne Town as general manager.

Taking to social media, Fletcher wrote: “After eight ridiculously amazing seasons on the coaching staff, six years in the Premier League, Championship play-offs and a Championship promotion of which I’m so blessed, grateful and honoured, I move to my new role as first team player liaison officer, match day host and club ambassador.

“Very excited in this new chapter of my life at AFC Bournemouth.

“Love always, Fletch.”
