BRISTOL City boss Nigel Pearson dismissed claims that the Robins are “overvaluing” Cherries target Alex Scott, claiming that the teenager will go on to play for England.

Cherries have long held an interest in Guernsey-born Scott, with original reports linking the 19-year-old to a move to Dorset springing up in the winter window.

Recent reports suggest that Cherries are in advanced talks with Bristol City over a potential transfer, with the Robins rating Scott at £25million.

During pre-season Pearson has long suggested that Scott, who spent a year in Cherries’ youth set up, should in fact fetch £30m, although he would prefer the England under-21 international to remain at Ashton Gate this season.

In an interview with the Athletic, Pearson commented: “I’ve seen reports in some parts of the media where people are suggesting we are overvaluing him.

“But I’ve seen him since the start of pre-season — I think we probably should make it £30million rather than £25million. And that’s how I see it.

“Our stance as a club is we want to keep our best players.

“He’s been an outstanding performer for us and it’s no surprise that he’s been courted by a number of clubs.

“He’s a very talented boy and he will play for England.

“We have a better chance of being successful if he’s here.

“But, of course, it will depend on whether clubs meet our valuation.”
