DANNY Ford sent his “well wishes” to the member of the media who has been injured during Poole Pirates’ meeting at Edinburgh Monarchs tonight, adding: “I’ve not seen anything like that.”

After Craig Cook crashed out of heat six, his bike flew up over the air fence and is said to have struck a photographer working on the fourth bend.

A lengthy delay of around 45 minutes ensued as the man was treated by paramedics, before the air ambulance was called to Armadale Stadium and the meeting was abandoned.

Pirates promoter Ford, who was not at the meeting in person, told the Daily Echo: “I’ve been watching the live stream.

“All I can comment on is that Craig Cook has been in a crash, his bike flew up in the air and has hit a photographer or cameraman I believe and caused them a serious injury.

“I understand that the air ambulance is there on site at the minute and the meeting has been abandoned. Those are all the facts I’ve got at the minute.”

Pirates led 21-9 at the time of the abandonment, but the result of the SGB Championship fixture is not set to stand.

“First and foremost we send our well wishes to the member in question and hope everything is okay,” said Ford.

“It sounds like it was a nasty incident and it looked it.

“Anyone who was watching the live stream like I was, it looked nasty. Hopefully Craig is okay as well as that cameraman, because it was quite nasty.”

He added: “I’ve not seen anything like that (before) and that makes you reassess things.

“Certified members of the press are allowed on the outer part of the track, so it makes you rethink our own situation, just to make sure we’re covered in every regard with regards to health and safety because these situations can cause irreparable damage to be honest.”
