POOLE Pirates have turned to former rider Nathan Ablitt to step in for Adam Roynon this Wednesday against Oxford Cheetahs.

Roynan was taken to hospital following a collision with the bike of Edinburgh’s Dayle Wood after a spill in the second heat last Friday night, the contest subsequently abandoned as a member of the media was hospitalised following a bizarre incident in heat six.

The full extent of Roynon's injury is as of yet unknown, with further scans required on his shoulder.

Ablitt was part of the Pirates side that lifted the league and Knockout Cup double last term.

The Essex-born rider currently turns out for Scunthorpe Scorpions in the same division as Poole, as well as riding for Kent Royals in the National Development League.

Pirates travel to Scunthorpe on Friday, August 11, meaning they will have to draft in another guest, Sam Hagon, for the encounter at Eddie Wright raceway.
