A PENALTY from Daniel Adu-Adjei earned Cherries victory in their first home game since joining the Professional Development League.

Goalkeepers were on top throughout the contest, with Adu-Adjei’s penalty all that separated the sides in a 1-0 win for Cherries over Peterborough United at Wimborne Town's New Cuthbury.

Ben Greenwood struck the crossbar, before Adu-Adjei missed the clearest chance of the first half, just before the break.

Cherries flew out of the traps after the restart. Kian Tydeman’s looping header hit the crossbar, before Adu-Adjei’s header was acrobatically saved by goalkeeper Finley Talley.

At the other end, Cameron Plain made a brilliant double stop to deny Kabongo Tshimanga and Kai Corbett.

Cherries wasted some big chances to get in front against a Posh side boasting plenty of EFL experience.

But one of those men was guilty of a reckless challenge with 15 minutes to play, Joe Tomlinson sliding in on Greenwood in the box.

Up stepped Adu-Adjei from the resulting spot-kick, slotting it into the bottom corner.

Peterborough almost grabbed a leveller with the final kick of the game, Ryan De Havilland’s powerful free-kick excellently tipped away from the top corner by Plain.

Cherries: Plain; Tonks, Bevan, Kinsey-Wellings, Greenwood; Dacosta Gonzalez, Williams, Wadham, Sadi; Tydeman; Adu-Adjei.

Subs: Harris, Okoh, Boutin, Landa, Crisp (g/k).
