CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola shared his side were “the team that finishes less happy” as Brentford equalised late on in a 2-2 draw at Gtech Community Stadium.
The hosts had led from Mathias Jensen’s free-kick, before Dominic Solanke restored parity on the half-hour mark.
Substitutes Marcus Tavernier and David Brooks combined to give Cherries the advantage late on, only for the Bees to respond through Bryan Mbuemo in added time.
Cherries had been hanging on throughout the second half, but Iraola still admitted that conceding late on was painful.
He told the Daily Echo: “I think it's not a bad result before the game, but we were so close to taking the three points that probably we’re the team that finishes less happy.
“I think it was a game where everything could happen.
“There were moments where they looked better than us, moments where we looked better.
“We were really close to winning the game but it's true that they were pushing a lot.
“I think we finished the game pretty tired at the end and we were conceding too much space in the last minutes.”
Asked if he thought it was a fair result, the Basque continued: “I think it could be a fair result, because we were defending more at the end of the game because of the result they had to push.
“But I think they deserved it, especially with the chances they had in set pieces.
“I think we were suffering in the last minutes and you could see that they were going to have some chances.
“Probably the worst thing for us is the way we concede the goal.
“It comes from our own goal kick.
“We made two or three mistakes, probably because we were not physically at our best.
“But we have to know to finish these games because it has been very difficult to arrive to this moment.
“We have run a lot, we have played good stretches of football during the game.
“And to lose it this way, it hurts.”
