JAMAL Lowe says a lack of game-time with Cherries last season has “reignited that fire and that hunger to prove myself again”.

The 29-year-old left Cherries on deadline day to return to former club Swansea City, on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The striker joined Cherries from the Swans in the summer of 2021 and has scored eight goals in 40 appearances for the Dorset club.

However, only four of those outings came last season, before the Jamaica international was shipped out on loan to Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window.

Since boss Andoni Iraola took charge of Cherries this summer, Lowe has not be part of the first-team plans, training with the development squad. He featured for them in a pre-season friendly at Poole Town.

Discussing his late switch to Swansea, which was confirmed with just hours of the transfer window remaining, Lowe told the club’s website: “A long day, a long drive, but it’s well worth it to be back here, back amongst it, back involved and back playing again.

“There was a few other clubs involved, but I feel like once Swansea was there at the table, there was no other thinking.

“Obviously I know the club very well, I’ve been here before. I know still five or six of the boys who are still here from when I was here.

“I spoke to the manager and everything just fits well for me. It was a no-brainer.”

Reflecting on his own footballing path, which saw him make his name in non-league, Lowe added: “It’s not been a straightforward journey, I didn’t come up through an academy.

“I feel like that just gives me that hunger to keep going. Especially how things have gone last season with limited game-time, I feel I’ve reignited that fire and that hunger to prove myself again.”

Lowe previously netted 14 goals in 58 appearances as he helped Swansea reach the 2021 Championship play-off final.

“We did get to the final and that was a great achievement, but we got there and didn’t get over the line in the end,” said Lowe.

“For me, that still hurts. That’s still something that I look back on with a bit of regret.

“It’s something I’d like to be able to help the team put right.”

Asked what he hopes to achieve at Swansea this season, the former Portsmouth man said: “I hope I can some goals, obviously, to the team, some experience and some hard work.

“I feel like if we can do that together then the possibilities are endless.

“We’ve all got the same goal in mind. I want to be a Premier League player, the club wants to be a Premier League club and I feel like together we’re all fighting for the same goal.

“Hopefully I can help towards that.”
