HAMWORTHY Recreation have been handed another home draw as reward for dispatching higher league Bournemouth Poppies 5-2 in the FA Vase.
Brad Cherrett’s first-half brace cancelled out a 2-0 Poppies lead built by Jaden Medcraff and James Stocker, before strikes in the second period from Tyler Rudd, George Deem, and Chris Long made sure of Rec’s progression.
Rec will welcome Bovey Tracey to the BJM Stadium on Saturday, October 21 in the first round proper of the competition.
Bovey Tracey currently play in the South West Peninsula Premier League East, a division in the same footing of the English pyramid as Ham Rec, the 10th tier.
The Devon-based team enter the competition at this stage after receiving an exemption for reaching the third round of last year’s competition.
It is Rec’s first run in the FA Vase, having defeated AFC Fawley and Poppies in the qualifying rounds.
Fellow Wessex Division One outfit New Milton Town travel to Downton, whilst Blackfield & Langley will host Tuffley Rovers after knocking out Brockenhurst on penalties in the second qualifying round.
Elsewhere, former Cherry talisman Brett Pitman’s Shaftesbury will visit Highworth Town.
Winning teams at this stage will receive £825 from the competition’s prize fund, whilst losing sides will receive a commiserative £250.
