A POTENTIAL injury to Dominic Solanke was “probably the worst part of the evening” for Cherries during Wednesday's 2-0 win over Stoke City.
Cherries’ talismanic striker came off the bench to add impetus to what was a quiet EFL Cup tie, Joe Rothwell quickly adding a second to secure safe passage to the fourth round.
But Solanke found himself back on the sidelines before the final whistle, with a potential ankle injury forcing him off.
The former Liverpool man has now scored four goals in eight appearances this term, also providing an assist for his side.
Discussing Solanke’s impact on the result, Iraola shared: “I think it happened pretty similar against Swansea.
“He came in, he didn't score, but he was there in the goals and he gave us also different energy against Swansea.
“I think he's played well.
“Overall, the team has been much better in second half.”
Asked if there was any prognosis for Solanke in the wake of the final whistle. Iraola replied: “Unfortunately he couldn't finish the game.
“Probably the worst part of the evening.
“We'll see how he presents (today), if the ankle is swollen or not.
“But we have a very tight schedule, not even three days. It's going to be tough.”
Cherries return to action on Saturday, when they welcome Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to Vitality Stadium in the Premier League.
“He wasn't feeling well,” continued Cherries’ head coach.
“He tried to continue, but he felt pain in the ankle.
“I think we will have more news, depending how he comes, if it's swollen or not.
“But we don't know right now.”
Solanke recently signed a new contract at Dean Court, tying down the one-time England international to Cherries until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
Since joining Cherries in January 2019, the 26-year-old has scored 60 goals in 182 appearances, providing 28 assists for teammates.
The striker has played some part in all eight of Cherries’ fixtures so far this term.
