TYLER Adams says he is confident he will repay Cherries with good performances after they took a “risk” on signing him in the summer.
The USA international made his debut off the bench in Wednesday’s 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Stoke City.
Adams, signed from Leeds United for around £23million in the summer, had not featured in a competitive fixture since March 11 after suffering a hamstring injury.
“It was a good feeling. Just to step on the grass again in a competitive match felt really, really nice,” Adams told BBC Radio Solent.
“I’m excited to be here with my new team, a new environment, new people and the support from the fans was amazing as well.
“I would say that I was probably progressing a little bit ahead of schedule.
“I probably am the worst patient that the medical staff has ever seen!
“I’m pushing them every day just to do whatever I can to get out there on the pitch.
“I’m still working through all the nicks and niggles that you go through in a rehab session. If you push yourself too hard, you’ve got to take two steps back then to take another step forward.
“So I’ve been very patient, they’ve been very patient with me as well, but it’s exciting for all for all of us when it comes together and I’m able to play in a match.”
He added: “We all came to an agreement of 30 minutes max, I think I played 25 or so. Then hopefully with the goal to playing a little bit more on Saturday.
“It’s not often that a club signs an injured player.
“They took a risk on me, but I know that I’m going to be able to pay them back with good performances here, so I’m excited that I’m able to get back out there finally.”
Discussing Adams’s debut, boss Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I think it’s very good, especially for him.
“Because after so much time out from the game, to be part of the team again, play his first minutes. He kept us also with this high energy.
“I think his minutes were good and it’s another player we gain for the next games.”
