CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola says he will stick to watching golf on TV rather than attempting to play, as he keeps tabs on fellow Basque Jon Rahm.
Team Europe star Rahm is currently in action in Rome in the Ryder Cup.
The 28-year-old, who won the Masters this year, is a big fan of Iraola’s former club Athletic Bilbao. His grandfather, Sabin, who died in 2018, formerly worked with Iraola during a long stint in Athletic’s youth set-up.
Asked if he is a fan of golf and following the Ryder Cup, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “It is very difficult for me! I tried but I usually don’t play.
“I watch it on TV. I am a Jon Rahm fan, because he is a big Athletic Club fan also.
“We have some people in common. But I am not a specialist, considering that here it is a very followed sport also.”
Discussing Rahm, Iraola added: “His grandfather was my team manager when we were at Athletic Club, Sabin Rahm, a very nice guy.
“I remember him. He was a big Athletic Club supporter.”
