CHERRIES' wait for a first Premier League win continues after they contrived to lose 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Dominic Solanke’s 17th minute strike was cancelled out moments after the restart by a fine Matheus Cunha goal, before a red card for Lewis Cook left Cherries facing a deluge of Wolves attacks.

In the end substitute Sasa Kalajdzic popped up two minutes from time to give Gary O'Neil a win over his former employers.

Summer signing Alex Scott was handed a debut after overcoming a knee injury incurred before his £25million move from Bristol City.

That was one of four swaps from the side defeated 3-0 away at Everton prior to the international break, with Lloyd Kelly also returning from the treatment room.

Kelly’s inclusion came at the expense of Marcos Senesi, whilst Ryan Christie, Adam Smith, and Dango Ouattara made way for Scott, Max Aarons, and David Brooks respectively.

Cherries survived the first dangerous moment of the game, Wolves’ dangerman Pedro Neto smacking the crossbar from the edge of the area.

The aftermath of the initial shot was nervily dealt with by Cherries, Neto rushing out and doing enough to put off Hwang Hee-Chan, who nodded wide.

Both sides enjoyed forays forward in the opening stages, without providing much of note.

Wolves found success down Cherries’ right, cutting the ball back into the penalty area on multiple occasions only to find there was no one there to turn it home.

But it would be the hosts who found the opener, the move for Solanke’s fourth of the season starting at the very back with Neto.

The goalkeeper fed the ball to Scott, who moved it onto Billing, the Dane playing an elongated one-two with Brooks on the edge of the area.

That passage of play made space for Billing inside the area, the midfielder cutting it back for Solanke to turn home with a dragged finish.

Illia Zabarnyi made a meal out of halting Cunha on the half-way line, the Ukrainian seeing the game’s first yellow for both pulling the shirt and clipping the heels of the Wolves attacker.

That set the tone for the closing stages of the first period, Cunha himself booked for dissent by Paul Tierney.

Scott would join them in the referee’s notebook, although the Wolves faithful believed Milos Kerkez’s foul immediately before deserved a similar punishment.

Wolves were no angels either, with captain Max Kilman’s late slide on Solanke also garnering a caution.

After an energetic start to the game, Cherries’ first moments of the second half were the complete opposite.

The away side found themselves on level pegging, Pedro Neto driving forward with ease before slipping in Cunha.

Despite being troubled by two defenders, the Brazilian leaned back to finely stroke the ball into the top right and restore parity.

Before 10 second half minutes could elapse, Cherries would be left reeling even further.

An altercation erupted after Cook left a bit too much on Hee-Chan, the South Korean international making his feelings clear by getting in the Cherries’ midfielder’s face.

In a rare moment of madness, Cook moved his head towards his opponent’s, leaving Tierney with no choice but to display a red card.

It was just Cook’s second red card of his career, and first in over eight years.

That set up a final 35 minutes of rearguard action for Cherries with their remaining 10 men.

Wolves were largely restricted to shots from the edge of the area, Cunha the biggest producer with speculative efforts.

One of the Brazilian international's shots caused Neto to produce a decent stop to keep the ball out, before Hee-Chan blasted high and wide at an awkward angle.

Cherries had some moments on the break, but again did not truly test Jose Sa in the Wolves’ goal.

Joe Rothwell and Billing had long-range efforts denied by the Portuguese, with the away side still in the ascendency.

But Wolves’ breakthrough would not come from grinding Cherries down, but instead another mistake.

Goalkeeper Neto rushed to take a goal kick, passing it to Billing on the edge of the area.

He was quickly pickpocketed, allowing Hee-Chan to poke the ball through to substitute Kalajdzic who calmly slotted past a static Neto.
