CHERRIES midfielder Lewis Cook has apologised to the rest of the side after his dismissal in a 2-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Cook and co. had led at Vitality Stadium thanks to Dominic Solanke’s fourth goal of the season, before a mad 10 minutes following the break proved costly.

First, Cherries were carved apart too easily as Matheus Cunha equalised moments after the restart, before Cook was handed his marching orders for a headbutt on Hwang Hee-Chan following an altercation.

Late on Neto’s rashly taken goal kick saw Cherries quickly lose the ball, allowing Wolves’ Sasa Kalajdzic to prod home the winner.

Asked about the two mistakes, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I think it's today obviously Lew (Lewis Cook) and Neto.

“They know they made the mistakes.

“There were other players.

“So when it becomes something that is not just one player, or that we can just replace or whatever we have to take accountability and we have to accept that.

“We are not keeping the focus to compete and to win games in the Premier League.”

After Hee-Chan squared up to Cook after taking offence to a heavy challenge, the one-time England international retaliating with what can only be described as a headbutt.

That left match official Paul Tierney no choice but to show the midfielder just the second red card of his career.

“I haven't seen it repeated,” Iraola restarted.

“I suppose it's a red card, because he was the first one to apologise and he knows that he has made the mistake.

“But the truth is he left us in a difficult situation, especially his teammates.

“But we were close. We were close at least to take 1-1.

“But we conceded probably in the worst way, the second one.”

As Cook’s dismissal was for violent conduct, it is likely he will be banned for at least the next three games.

That will include Cherries’ EFL Cup tie at home to Liverpool at the start of November, Cook also missing the home match with Burnley and the trip to Manchester City in the Premier League.
