CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola believes Alex Scott will prove to be a “good addition” after making his debut at the weekend.

A summer signing for a reported £25million from Championship side Bristol City, Scott arrived at Vitality Stadium nursing a knee issue.

The Guernsey-born midfielder featured for 57 minutes, starting the match before making way for Joe Rothwell following Lewis Cook’s dismissal.

Although rusty after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Scott did not look out of place despite Cherries losing 2-1.

Iraola revealed that he contemplated using Scott as a substitute against Wolves, but instead opted to use the 20-year-old from the off, as he felt it was more beneficial for both team and player.

The Basque head coach commented: “We knew that he couldn't play 90 minutes. Our plan was like this, play 45.

“He was doing well, maybe 55, 60, something like this at most. That's what we thought.

“I could go, probably to play second half, 30 minutes with him (off the bench).

“But also I think sometimes with injuries I prefer that they warm up with the team.

“They have a proper warm up, not they are alone there and they don't know when they go.

“And then we prefer to go like this because I feel we need this kind of player in the middle.

“He gave us, I think, some energy. He gave us good transitions covering the ball, and I think it's going to be a good addition for the team.”

Cook’s dismissal for violent conduct means he will miss at least three games, leaving Iraola’s midfield looking even lighter.

Scott’s fellow summer signing Tyler Adams has been ruled out until 2024 after undergoing surgery on his hamstring issue.

“It's a huge loss for the next games because we are lacking Tyler Adams,” Iraola restarted.

“Alex, we’ll see how he feels after the game.

“I think he finished very well and I hope he can play, but it's a position probably where the things are happening in the negative way.”
