ANDONI Iraola shared how he was “happy” and “relieved” after picking up his first Premier League win as Cherries boss.

Antoine Semenyo and Philip Billing struck in each half to overhaul Charlie Taylor’s opener as Cherries defeated Burnley 2-1 at Vitality Stadium.

It represents a first victory in the Premier League after 10 attempts, the win also lifting Cherries out of the relegation zone at the time of writing.

Whilst Cherries had previously defeated Championship sides Swansea City and Stoke City in the EFL Cup, they had been without a top-flight win since April last season, a 13-game run stretching back to Gary O’Neil’s tenure.

Asked how he was feeling after the game, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “Obviously happy!

“I'm relieved because I think it was a needed victory for us.

“Probably when you are in this situation, everything costs a lot more.

“And it happened today. I think we really deserved to win today. But obviously with the last decision of the offside, we have to suffer until the end.

“Because for sure we all were remembering Brentford game, in stoppage time.

“We were thinking it cannot happen again. It's not because we really didn't deserve today.

“I think we deserved to win. Clearly the game, even after conceding the first goal, we played very well.

“First half, I think we put a lot of pressure on them.

“We scored one. I think we deserved more and we talked in half time to start much better than the other day (against Wolves), second half and I think we did.

“We kept putting the pressure - probably not so clear than in the first half, because the players were starting to get tired, but second goal arrived at the right moment for us.”

Cherries are in midweek action on Wednesday, November 1, when they welcome Liverpool to Dean Court in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
