CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola stated that back-up goalie Darren Randolph is currently unavailable due to “health reasons”, the veteran having missed recent weeks of training.

After news broke of first-choice keeper Neto’s ankle injury, it was announced that Cherries had recalled Mark Travers from his loan spell at Stoke City.

All goalkeeper loan moves include an emergency recall clause in deals between clubs, Cherries exercising the option after Randolph’s unavailability left them with just Andrei Radu as a registered senior goalkeeper.

The Romanian made his Premier League debut as Cherries picked up a first win in the top flight under Iraola on Saturday, defeating Burnley 2-1 at Vitality Stadium.

Iraola also suggested that Radu will remain in between the sticks for Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash with Liverpool, as Travers is cup tied having played for Stoke in their first round triumph over West Brom.

Asked about Randolph, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “Darren has been out for a while.

“He has been unavailable for us, for health reasons.

“(Against Burnley) we only had (Andrei) Radu and Trav (Mark Travers) came straight away for the bench.

“I just met him two hours before the game.

“Even Wednesday, unluckily he cannot play. So we only have Radu and we will have to call some of the young keepers for the bench, because Mark played, I think, first round against West Brom.

"So he's cup tied.

“I think it's a health issue. I don't want to make mistakes, but he has been out for four last weeks.

“He hasn't been part of the training for last weeks and we hope he recovers.

“But right now we don't have him.”

Since arriving from fellow Premier League outfit West Ham in January 2023, Randolph is yet to make an appearance for Cherries.

In total, he has been named in three matchday squads, the last inclusion in the 20-man shortlist for a game the final day clash with Everton last season.
