CHERRIES goalkeeper Andrei Radu shared his belief that his side were “unlucky” in 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, the goalkeeper saying his team “played an amazing game”.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds advanced from the fourth round EFL Cup clash at Vitality Stadium courtesy of goals from Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez, Cherries briefly equalising through Justin Kluivert.
The first goal saw a long-range strike deflected into Radu and subsequently into the path of Gakpo, before Nunez came off the bench to score a stunner and secure Liverpool’s safe passage through to the quarter finals.
Although injury to Neto allowed Radu the opportunity to make his Premier League debut at the weekend, Radu had started in Cherries’ previous games in the League Cup.
Discussing the game, the Romanian international told the Daily Echo: “That was a really, really tough, tough game.
“But I think the weather was tougher, honestly.
“We did a great job, we did. We played an amazing game as a as a team, but we didn't have that equaliser in the end.
“I was hoping till the end, but this is the football. We were a bit unlucky.
“They score one goal from like a rebound, this is the Premier League, Carabao Cup this always happen at this level.
“They score an amazing goal. I have to see it after because I didn't see it yet.
“So I cannot judge it for now.
“But from the game for me it looks like kind of impossible to arrive there, but I have to see it again.”
Asked if it was the worst conditions he had played in, Radu continued: “I was freezing!
“My footwork wasn't that amazing because my foot was frozen.
“It was really crazy. But we have to adapt.
“We are professional footballers, so we have to adapt anyway. We are paid to play football, so absolutely we cannot complain about anything.
“But for playing good football, good weather is better.”
With Cherries chasing an equaliser, the goalie went up for a late free-kick.
However, Radu’s presence in the box proved more of a hindrance, the Inter Milan loanee blocking David Brooks’ attempt.
“I did the Liverpool defender's job!,” he joked.
“It was so unlucky. I'm very sad for that.
"But it's okay, doesn't matter now.
“We have to focus on Manchester City the next game, which is very, very important.
“We came after victory against Burnley and we have to put the same mentality that we had tonight against City.
“For me, we can bring something home.”
