CHERRIES defender Milos Kerkez believes his side can learn from their heavy loss away at reigning champions Manchester City.

The Hungarian international played the full 90 minutes as Cherries were downed 6-1 by Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens, the club’s heaviest loss at the hands of City.

With Sheffield United picking up their first win of the season of Wolves, and Luton recording a point at home to Liverpool, Cherries dropped back into the bottom three, with just six points from their opening 11 fixtures.

Discussing the result with the Daily Echo, the 19-year-old began: “Of course it's tough when you concede six goals.

“But I feel we started good, we had a plan. Good first 30 minutes and after that we dropped.

“The players were not running back in the (18-yard) box.

“And we had to take care of the crosses, cutbacks. And later we didn't, so they score from that.”

Cherries have just one win in the league, and have only taken one point from their six away games so far this season.

“Of course,” Kerkez replied when asked if his side could learn from the loss.

“I mean you play against big players, big team like this and it was a great experience.

“There's a lot of positive stuff to take from the individual performances and also then to bring it to next week against Newcastle, to bring it together again.”

Asked about the reaction to the heavy loss Cherries must show next week, Kerkez replied: “It’ll be very important.

“I mean, we play at home next game and we all know we do much better at home, so we want to give everything next week.”

Saturday’s game saw Kerkez at wing-back, rather than his usual full-back berth since joining Cherries.

At times Lloyd Kelly and his defensive nous has been preferred by Andoni Iraola, but against Manchester City, both were utilised.

Whilst Kelly and Kerkez have played some minutes together, it usually has come with the former at centre-half and the latter as a traditional full-back.

However, in order to contend with City’s many stars at the weekend, boss Iraola deployed the pair in a back five, with Kerkez operating more as a wing-back alongside Kelly, who at times came wide to cover at left-back, predominantly positioned as the left-most centre-back.

Kerkez has experience as a wing-back, establishing himself as first choice in the position for his country Hungary.

“It’s not different,” he began to explain.

“I play this role for the national team. So the same for me, four or five (at the back)."
