FORMER Cherries striker Callum Wilson is an injury doubt ahead of Saturday’s clash against his old club.

The 31-year-old was withdrawn at half-time during Newcastle United’s 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

He has been in fine form this season, netting seven goals in 14 club appearances.

Boss Eddie Howe is already navigating a lengthy list of absentees ahead of this weekend.

Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy suffered injuries in the Magpies’ win over Arsenal on Saturday, while Matt Targett, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak, Harvey Barnes, Javier Manquillo and Elliot Anderson are also all out.

Newcastle will too be without midfield duo Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali this weekend, as the pair serve suspensions.

Wilson, who scored 67 goals in 187 appearances for Cherries, has not faced the Dorset club at Vitality Stadium since leaving in 2020, missing the fixture last season due to injury.

Discussing the England forward’s setback in Germany, Howe said: “Callum was feeling a tightness in his hamstring.

“We are really stretched at the moment.”

He added it was “too early to know” the full extent of Wilson’s injury.

Newcastle named just eight of a possible 12 substitutes for the Dortmund clash, including two goalkeepers and two teenagers who have never played for the first team.
