CHERRIES women have been drawn at home to Women’s Championship leaders Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.
Charlton are the highest-ranked side in the competition, with Cherries currently plying their trade in the fourth tier of the pyramid.
Having entered at the third round of qualifying, Cherries have defeated a total of three teams to set up the tie with Charlton, first beating St Austell 13-2, before dispatching fellow National League Division One South West outfit Bridgwater United 5-0.
Cherries then defeated divisional rivals Swindon in the second round, booking their place in the third-round draw for the first time in their history.
The third-round draw remained regionalised, with sides from the second tier of the women’s game entering the tournament.
Clubs from the top-flight enter the competition in the fourth round.
Ties will be staged on Sunday, December 10. If ties are not decided after 90 minutes, extra time and then penalties are on the cards.
Prize money available to sides competing in the third round of the competition has nearly quadrupled from last season.
Winning sides will receive £35,000, whilst losing teams will still earn £9,000. Last term victorious clubs earnt £10,000, with defeated sides awarded £2,500.
