FORMER top referee Dermot Gallagher labelled Antoine Semenyo ‘the luckiest man in Bournemouth’ after avoiding a dismissal in Cherries’ 2-2 draw with Aston Villa.
Already on a booking, Semenyo hauled down fellow goalscorer Leon Bailey just inside the Cherries half, clearly pulling the Jamaican’s shirt.
Whilst a foul was given, no second yellow was presented, much to the frustration of the away side.
Referee Bramall’s view of the incident was obscured by Bailey, whilst the assistant referee was focused on spotting any potential offside infringements.
VAR currently cannot intervene over potential yellow card offences, meaning Semenyo’s tug went unpunished.
After the mitigating circumstances were pointed out by the Sky Sports presenter Rob Wotton, Gallagher replied: “My work here is done – you have summed it up so eloquently and so precisely!
“He’s the luckiest man in Bournemouth not to have been sent off, because it’s a blatant second yellow card.”
