CHERRIES extended to four matches their unbeaten run in the Premier League with a hard-fought 2-0 win at Crystal Palace.
A first-half Marcos Senesi header sent the visitors on their way at Selhurst Park, before substitute Kieffer Moore sealed the result late on as Cherries moved nine points clear of the relegation zone.
The victory also lifts Andoni Iraola’s men up a place to 15th, after ending a run of five straight league defeats against the Eagles.
Iraola made just one change from the side which drew to Aston Villa on Sunday. Luis Sinisterra was brought in for his first start for the club, Marcus Tavernier dropping to the bench.
Jefferson Lerma started for Palace, against the club he left in the summer after five years. Joel Ward, who had a loan spell at Cherries in 2008-09, captained the hosts and in doing so set a new club record, of appearing in more Premier League matches (292) than any other player.
Neto was twice called into saves in the opening five minutes, to deny efforts from Jordan Ayew.
But Cherries carved out the best early opening. After Justin Kluivert was dispossessed, the ball fell to Antoine Semenyo, whose low shot was turned behind by Sam Johnstone.
Palace were opting for direct attacks up towards Ayew and Odsonne Edouard, while Cherries were looking dangerous down the flanks, without being able to find the final pass.
The visitors earned a string of corners around the midpoint of the half and one yielded the opening goal.
Ryan Christie’s delivery was flicked on by Sinisterra and found Senesi, who ran off Ward and stooped to head in from close range, the centre-back notching his first goal of the campaign.
Palace looked to hit straight back. A powerful low drive from Ayew was beaten away by Neto, before a vital sliding block from Illia Zabarnyi thwarted Edouard on the rebound.
The hosts were dealt a further blow just before the half-hour mark, Tyrick Mitchell forced off injured. On came former Cherries loanee Nathaniel Clyne.
Cherries looked to add to their advantage before half-time, Sinisterra and Kluivert firing off target, before Solanke was denied on the stretch by the feet of Johnstone.
Palace were booed off by a section of fans at the interval, but made a lively start to the second period.
Lerma came within inches of equalising against his old club, breaking into the box and smashing a shot against the post.
Roy Hodgson’s men began building a bit of pressure, so Iraola turned to his bench just past the hour mark, introducing Tavernier and Philip Billing.
Chances began to dry up before Dango Ouattara was also brought on, as Cherries looked to be grinding out the result.
And they put it to bed in stoppage time, Billing crossing for Moore at the back post to head in his first club goal since November 2022.
