CHERRIES boss Andoni Iraola hailed his side for a “really good performance” as they picked up a maiden win away at Manchester United in emphatic fashion.
Dominic Solanke’s fifth-minute opener was added to in the second period by Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi to stun Old Trafford, Cherries taking all three points with a 3-0 scoreline.
Whilst Cherries were by no means dominant, they constantly looked a threat on the counterattack, soaking up Manchester United’s impotent attacks and breaking in numbers.
Iraola commented how he was impressed with his side’s defensive contributions, believing his charges had “to suffer” in order to get their goals, and most importantly, the victory.
Discussing the game with the Daily Echo, Iraola began: “It feels really great.
“Obviously, I think today we had a really good performance.
“I think the team suffered when they had to suffer. We defended really well and we knew that probably in transition, we could have our chances and we took them.
Iraola famously defeated Real Madrid and Barcelona with former employers Rayo Vallecano, defeating the latter at the Camp Nou 1-0.
Asked how Cherries’ victory at Old Trafford compared, the Basque boss told the Daily Echo: “It’s a difficult comparison. It is the best result in England.
“I think it's nice to win in this kind of a stadium with this kind of performance. But you look it’s 3-0, we could even score the fourth one.
“But we've had moments to suffer also in the first half, because they were more on the ball.
“We were defending quite well, but with the quality of the players they have, you never know when they can make the difference.
“I think for us was the key to defend well and then to be dangerous in transitions.”
Cherries have risen up to 13th in the Premier League table at the time of writing, rising above London clubs Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Iraola’s charges have now taken 13 points from their last five games, an unbeaten streak stretching back to the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at the start of November.
