THE PREMIER League has confirmed that Cherries’ abandoned match with Luton Town will be replayed in full.

Cherries and Luton were drawing 1-1 after 59 minutes of play at Vitality Stadium on Saturday, December 16 when Hatters captain Tom Lockyer collapsed off the ball in his own half.

The Welsh international quickly received medical attention for what was later revealed to be a cardiac arrest.

Play was paused for Lockyer to be attended to, before the decision to abandon the game was made after the centre-back was stretched off the pitch.

The latest update from Luton Town regarding Lockyer was on Monday, when it was stated the former Charlton Athletic defender was recovering in hospital and undergoing further tests.

Whilst the decision to restart the match has been made, a new date for the fixture has yet to have been confirmed.

In a statement on their website, the Premier League said: “Following the on-field medical emergency involving Luton Town FC player Tom Lockyer, the Premier League Board has decided last Saturday’s AFC Bournemouth v Luton Town FC fixture will be replayed in full.

“The game will be rescheduled for later in the season, with a date to be confirmed following consultation with relevant parties.

“The decision to abandon the match in the 59th minute was made collectively between the match officials, players, managers from both clubs and the Premier League.

“The League would like to thank the medical staff and all those involved for their swift actions in responding to what was an extremely upsetting situation for everyone. We wish Tom a continued recovery and our thoughts are with him, his family and all those at Luton Town FC.”

Cherries return to Premier League action this weekend when they visit Nottingham Forest on Saturday, whilst Luton host Newcastle United (both 3pm).
