JAMES Hill has been recalled to Cherries, from his loan spell at Blackburn Rovers.
Managers of both clubs, Andoni Iraola and Jon Dahl Tomasson, explained in recent days they expected Hill’s return to be confirmed.
Blackburn are disappointed to lose Hill, who celebrates his 22nd birthday today. He has become a key part of their side in the Championship and leaves having made 20 appearances, scoring one goal.
But Cherries have opted to bring back the defender, who can operate at centre-back or right-back, to help cover some defensive injuries. Both Lloyd Kelly and Milos Kerkez are currently out injured, as well as long-term absentee Ryan Fredericks.
Hill, who made his Premier League debut on the opening day of this season for Cherries against West Ham United, could feature when Andoni Iraola’s men host Liverpool next weekend.
Speaking to RoversTV ahead of his departure, the former England under-21 international said: “It’s been absolutely incredible.
“I don’t think that Blackburn actually realise the opportunity they’ve given me.
“My first ever Championship season, and from how I thought I would’ve done to how I’ve actually done, I’ve impressed myself. I’ve really surprised myself in that aspect and I think I’ve surprised others as well.
“This club has given me so much. It has given me an opportunity to play week in, week out. It’s something I can’t really say thank you for, there’s no words for it.
“It’s an honour to put the badge on and wear the blue and white colours.”
Former Fleetwood Town man Hill added: “That moment for me (against Birmingham City), to score my first Championship goal, and I’ve come out with three assists as well, it’s something that’s been really positive for me.
“I don’t really get many assists or goals. So for me to take one away with me. I’ve got a massive framed photo of that moment actually at home now. It’s my first one on the wall, but it will live fondly in my memories.
“For the rest of my life it always will. Thank you to Blackburn Rovers for giving me that opportunity.”
Since signing for Cherries for around £1million in January 2022, Hill has made five competitive appearances for the club and spent part of last season out on loan at Heart of Midlothian.
