CHERRIES development squad head coach Alan Connell was left satisfied after his charges came out 4-0 winners over Charlton Athletic in the Premier League Cup.
Connell’s young guns came out firing at New Cuthbury, racing into a three-goal lead inside 15 minutes thanks to efforts from Daniel Adu-Adjei, Balraj Landa, and Dominic Sadi.
After the game quietened down and evened out in the second period, Cherries made sure of the result through Adu-Adjei 15 minutes from time.
The result saw Cherries strengthen their position at the top of their group, with a three-point gap opening up above second-placed Norwich City.
Cherries have already booked their place in the knockout stages, but have their eyes set on first place and the home draw in the round of 16 that it guarantees.
Discussing the game, Connell told the Daily Echo: “It was everything we want it to be. It was fast, it was intense, a lot of possession. Also I think the way we pressed.
“We try and do that for pretty much the whole game where possible.
“I think that was a real standout in that first 15 minutes.
“So clinical as well, which obviously you’ve got to be when you get your chances.
“It was everything from that first 15 minutes.
“It puts us in a commanding position.
“But then I said to the players at half time that after that where it became a very even game, it shows how outstanding that first 15 minutes was because Charlton have got some good players and are a very good team as well.
“It showed in the outstanding first 15 minutes we had and in the second half it was a little bit scrappy at times.
“But in the end we’ve got rewarded by committing to another press and, the ball fell to Daniel and I thought he finished that one really well.
“So overall a really challenging day for different reasons. Injuries and other things as well.
“But ultimately I think our mentality shone through again.
"To come away with winning it, a performance like that was very satisfying.”
