CHERRIES defender Marcos Senesi believes his side’s 5-0 dismantling of Swansea City in the FA Cup was the perfect response to their heavy defeat to Liverpool.
After the Premier League’s international break, Cherries return to action with a 4-0 defeat at Vitality Stadium on Sunday, January 21.
However, there was little time for Cherries to go away and lick their wounds, with Championship side Swansea visiting Dean Court in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
A first-half salvo blew away the Welsh side, with Cherries effectively securing their spot in the fifth round with five goals in the first 45 minutes.
Speaking to the Daily Echo after the game, Senesi shared: “We needed to show a reaction after the defeat against Liverpool, and I think we did.
“We did a really good first half. The second half was really good but we weren’t really clinical at the end. But it's an important win and also important to have a clean sheet.
“I think when we play high, it's easier for us sometimes to attack and to help the team from the back, I think is the most important.
“Everyone knows what you have to do.
“I think it’s the way we have to play every single game.”
Cherries’ strong form in December has quashed earlier fears of relegation, enabling fans and players alike to look up the league table or dream of a potential cup run.
Senesi believes Cherries are strong enough to focus on both simultaneously.
“Both things are important, of course,” he continued.
“We know that these games are tough, but (win) four games, you can play a final.
“It's a dream to play.
“Of course we cannot say that our focus is on the cup – it’s on both (the league and the cup).”
