CHERRIES development squad defender Ben Greenwood has joined National League Eastleigh on loan until the end of the season.

The defender has been involved in a handful of matchday squads for Andoni Iraola’s first team this season, but has not made an appearance so far this term.

A left-back by trade, Greenwood has frequently been deployed at centre-back by development squad head coach Alan Connell this term.

Previously Greenwood has spent time on loan at Wimborne Town, Poole Town and Weymouth lower down the pyramid since joining Cherries’ academy in 2019.

Greenwood joins an Eastleigh side 11th in England’s fifth tier, with 38 points from 29 games.

The defender will be available to go straight into Richard Hill’s squad for Saturday’s clash with league leaders Chesterfield.

Greenwood becomes the second academy player to secure a loan move this month, with Jack Wadham joining sixth tier Worthing until the end of the season.
