ANDONI Iraola insists the decision on how soon Dominic Solanke returns to training will be up to the player himself.
Solanke missed Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in the FA Cup with a knee problem and underwent an MRI scan.
That issue was compounded by his replacement, Enes Unal, being forced off injured himself against the Foxes, hurting his collarbone.
Asked if either striker will be fit to face Burnley in the Premier League on Sunday (1pm), head coach Iraola said: “I think the MRI went quite well, but it is true that he still hasn’t trained with us.
“We still have one more training tomorrow. I will leave chances open.
“It will depend on how he manages the pain, because it is true that he still feels some pain in the knee.
“But at least with the MRI, everything is clear, nothing strange. It is just a matter of his sensations.
“Today he wasn’t training, but on the good side, Enes was training with us today.
“The x-ray showed that he didn’t have anything wrong with the bones. He obviously has a bruise and pain, but I hope he is at least available.
“We have to wait until tomorrow to see if we have a chance with Dom or not.”
- Who starts up top for Cherries if Solanke and Unal are ruled out with injury?
Iraola went on to reveal Solanke has been managing the knee issue since suffering the problem during the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on New Year’s Eve.
"It is a matter of him seeing himself outside, if he still feels the pain he felt the other day before the game or if it has improved," said Iraola.
"He will be the one taking the decision.
“It is a situation that is not new for Dom.
“It is something that has been going on since the Spurs game away, December 31.
“It is something that bothers him. He has been managing it quite well, but it is true that this week he has felt more pain.
“He wasn’t comfortable and obviously he is receiving all the treatment, we are trying to help him as much as we can from the medical department.
“We will try until the end tomorrow. If he feels comfortable, he may want to train and let’s see how it goes.”
None of Cherries’ other injured players are expected to return in time for the trip to Turf Moor, with Tyler Adams, Max Aarons, James Hill and Ryan Fredericks all still missing.
Asked if Lloyd Kelly could feature, after his hip problem, Iraola said: “No, he is still out.
“It will be the same as the other day against Leicester, except the situation with the forwards.
“I hope Enes is available and we will see with Dom.”
